BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Srijit Mukherji had tied the knot with Rafiath Rashid Mithila in a low-key ceremony in December 2019. However, at that time only a handful of people were present at the filmmaker’s south Kolkata flat. But on Leap Day, February 29, Srijit and Mithila threw a grand and warm reception in Kolkata for their family and friends at Raajkutir Swabhumi.
Bangladesh’s Mithila, an actress, model, singer and development worker, looked beautiful in a red saree. The gold jewellery further accentuated her beauty. And in a Punjabi and red dhoti from Sharbari Dutta’s Shunyaa, Srijit looked dapper and handsome as ever. Given the director’s next film project is Kakababur Protyaborton, which will be shot in the jungles of South Africa, one could get a glimpse of the wilderness all over the Punjabi.
The gathering at Raajkutir Swabhumi saw the presence of who’s who of Tollywood. From Aparna Sen, whom Srijit had assisted in Iti Mrinalini, to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and West Bengal minister Arup Biswas, the reception turned out to be a star-studded affair.
Almost all throughout the evening, Srijit and Mithila spent time meeting with the guests and posing for the cameramen. Srijit personally introduced Mithila to each guest. Also, it was lovely to see the workaholic filmmaker giving all the attention to the woman he wishes to grow old with.
However, when Anirban ‘Khoka’ Bhattacharya entered, things changed for a brief moment. Srijit hugged him and said, “Malik ke giye bol, Khoka eseche.” People around had a hearty laugh.
Later in the evening, Prosenjit Chatterjee, who plays the protagonist in Kakababur Protyaborton, arrived at Raajkutir Swabhumi to congratulate the newly-weds. Prosenjit was shooting for Kaushik Ganguly’s Kaveri Antardhan in north Bengal. However, he arrived in Kolkata on Saturday evening to attend his Autograph and Jaatishwar director’s wedding reception. “I will leave for South Africa to shoot for Kakababur Protyaborton on March 4. We all have been waiting for Srijit’s big day. I wish lifetime of happiness to Srijit and Mithila,” said Prosenjit, who was in his Kakababu look.
Rituparna Sengupta opted for a purple saree for the function and also blessed the couple. She also posed with Mithila’s extended family. “It’s lovely to see Srijit settle down,” she said.
Director Raj Chakraborty who welcomed Srijit in the “married club” said the Ek Je Chhilo Raja filmmaker is matured enough to handle any relationship and will play a great innings at marriage too. Subhashree, however, was shooting for her film. Meanwhile, Mimi Chakraborty had come at 6.30 pm and congratulated the couple.
The highlight of the reception was the cake-cutting ceremony with Srijit, Mithila and daughter Ayra, who looked pretty as a princess in a saree.
Srijit’s close friends from the industry — Kaushik Ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Indraadip Dasgupta — were seen enjoying themselves at the event.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Srijit left for South Africa early morning. He was accompanied by his cinematographer-friend Soumik Halder. The director also posted an early morning airport selfie. When asked on Saturday night if Mithila will join Srijit on the South Africa sojourn, the groom smiled and said, “She will go to Denmark. She travels more than me. I will be shooting with the team till March 21.” Congratulations to the beautiful couple.
