BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: The release of a film marks a celebration for any actor. And it becomes doubly special if he/she is making a comeback after a hiatus. It’s the same in the case of Celina Jaitly. Her last released films were in 2011. So, it is only natural for her to become emotional when Zee5 is releasing her new film Season’s Greetings, directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee on April 15. It marks the return of Celina post marriage and motherhood and coincidentally, the film, which also stars Lillette Dubey, revolves around a mother and daughter relationship. Lillette plays the role of mother, while Celina plays the role of daughter.
However, Celina, who is currently living with her husband and kids in Austria, got emotional that the film is releasing at a time when the world is battling with coronavirus pandemic. “When we were filming this one, we would have never imagined that a mutant flu virus could sabotage the pre-release promotions. Life is unpredictable, but we have decided to continue to see the promise of spring in depth of winters and are sure our film will be exactly what you need to keep your spirits entertained in this global lockdown,” said the Golmaal Returns actress.
She trusted Ram Kamal and his way of story telling. And the film pays tribute to late filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh. “This is a very special one for all of us, and I am sure Rituda will be happy with this homage,” she said. Celina also posted a heartfelt note on Instagram.
The film has been critically acclaimed at various national and international film festivals including Cardiff International Film Festival and Rajasthan International Film Festival early this year.
“Poila Baishak (Bengali New Year) is an auspicious day for us, and since the film is set in Kolkata and pays tribute to Bengal’s most loved filmmaker, this is the best time to release the film,” said the director.
Debutant actor Azhaar Khan plays the role of Celina’s boyfriend, while transgender actor Shree Ghatak plays the role of Chapala, the househelp.
Produced by Aritra Das and Shailendra Kumar, the film has been shot extensively in Kolkata. The film has music by Shailendra Sayanti and marks debut of Kumar Sanu’s son Jaan Kumar Sanu as playback singer. The first look of the film was launched by Amitabh Bachchan.
