BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: The updated Volkswagen compact models – Vento and sixth generation Polo – are now available fully compliant with BS VI certification. The biggest news is that there has been some juggling at the manufacturer’s end where a more efficient smaller 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine replaces the 1.2-litre TSI engine in the Polo GT.
There’s some change in the diesel portfolio too wherein the 1.5-litre TDI and 1.6-litre MPI engines have been also been discontinued. The 7-speed DSG is also not offered anymore on the Polo and Vento.
The Polo for 2020 will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre MPI, 3-cyl petrol engine that is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox and 1.0-litre TSI, 3-cyl turbo petrol engine that is available with either a 6-speed MT or a new 6-speed torque convertor AT.
The MPI engine is available in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline+ variants while the TSI models are being offered in Highline+ and GT trims.
The Vento will be offered with just one TSI 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Again Vento trims on the Trendline, Comfortline, Highline and Highline+ trims will get this set-up.
All variants are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission but the 6-speed AT is available on the Highline and Highline+ trims only.
The 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine is good for 110hp and 175 Nm. No cosmetic changes have been made to the models as they have already been facelifted.
Meanwhile, the Ameo has been dropped from the line-up.
