BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: BJP MP Gautam Gambhir slammed his party leader Kapil Mishra for his provocative speech on Sunday, which is largely believed to have triggered the rioting in Delhi in which 7 people have died so far. The large-scale violence was the result of pitched battles between supporters of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those opposing the legislation.
“This is unfortunate. Whoever has done this, strict action must be taken — whether from BJP, Congress or AAP. Kapil Mishra’s speech is not acceptable. This is about Delhi not about any political party,” Gambhir said.
“Shaheen Bagh was a peaceful protest all this while. But Trump is here and there are violent protests happening — this is not fair. Right to peaceful protest is okay. But picking up stones is not. How can you stand with a pistol in front of a cop?” the BJP MP added.
Kapil Mishra has been widely criticised for his incendiary speeches since protests broke out against CAA, including raising slogans like “Goli maaro saloon ko (Shoot the traitors)” in his rallies.
On Sunday, Kapil Mishra posted a video on Twitter and openly threatened to “hit the streets” and “not remain peaceful” in an ultimatum to cops to crack down on Shaheen Bagh squatters.
