BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide lockdown on March 24, we knew that we wouldn’t be able to watch movies at the theatres for at least three weeks. But then, a short film Family, a story of a missing sunglass released on Monday evening, and within no time, it became a blockbuster. And why won’t it be? Do you know the star cast? It stars Rajinikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Sonali Kulkarni and Shiv Raj Kumar.
But then, there’s something very special about this Prasoon Pandey directed short film. None of the actors, and technicians stepped out of their homes to make it and the film talks about why it is important to stay at home in the times of COVID-19 and tells us to maintain social distancing. Also, ever since the film released online on Monday, it has gone viral.
The plot revolves around Big B’s misplaced pair of dark sunglasses and everyone’s attempts to find it. Every actor speaks in his or her own mother tongue (and that’s the beauty of the film) and makes the film a light-hearted watch, with an important message. Rajinikanth even pulls off his signature sunglass-act during his part of the film.
A statement shared by Sony Pictures Networks India says, “Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Amitabh Bachchan, WE ARE ONE has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of 1,00,000 households across the country will be funded.”
Bachchan replied the tweet saying “WE SHALL OVERCOME”.
