ANINDITA ACHARYA, Kolkata: In July 2020, when 26-year-old Kolkata-based graphic artist Debojyoti Sarkar created the artwork, which featured Goddess Durga’s face with various elements of Kolkata, little did he imagine this would be shared by none other than Amitabh Bachchan on Dashami. The megastar was all praises for the portrait and called it “wow.” For the young artist, this was his best “Durga Puja gift this year.”
On Monday night, Big B shared the artist’s work on his official Facebook and Twitter accounts. “An artist’s imagination. If Kolkata had a face,” tweeted Big B. The actor, who shot extensively for Shoojit Sircar’s Piku in Kolkata, also explained every element on the portrait, which every Bengali can relate to.
“From top: Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, Durga Puja, Football & two rival clubs East Bengal (L) & Mohan Bagan (R), Mishti Doi, Ilish Fish, Nandan-Film Center & Cultural Center (the nose ring), two handis of Roshogolla as earrings, trams, rickshaws, flyovers & the ubiquitous Yellow Ambassador taxis… wow!!!,” tweeted the Gulabo Sitabo actor.

Ever since the Shahenshah of Bollywood shared Debojyoti’s graphical representation of Kolkata, his phone hasn’t stopped ringing. He has received congratulatory messages from friends and well-wishers. “It is something we can hardly imagine. This is definitely the best Durga Puja gift I have received this year,” he said.
Debojyoti, who works as a graphic artist at Hoichoi in Kolkata, was apprehensive on how to extend his gratitude to senior Bachchan. “Initially, I was afraid as I did not know what should I write him that would show how much he sharing my work means to me. No words are enough to thank him,” said the artist.
