KAUSHIK DUTTA, Bankura: The police officials in Bankura are not only keeping law and order situation under control amid lockdown but are also coming forward to help the farmers. Recently, they have launched a initiative called ‘Green Earth’. The initiative has been started in Chhatna police station area in Bankura district of West Bengal.
The district police officers said the Green Earth initiative has been launched in an attempt to make a paradigm shift in the community policing initiative to help mitigate the socio-economic and survival challenge posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Under the initiative, the district police officials have brought a myriad group of agriculture scientists, agri-entrepreneurs, professors and even students of agriculture science under a common umbrella to provide guidance and support to the people engaged in agriculture.
“The initiative has been launched from Kusbona village of Chhatna. We have distributed high yielding variety seeds of kharif rice, 8 types of vegetable seeds, fertilizer, vermicompost, insecticides beside apron, soap and masks to 60 families of the village,” said Koteshwara Rao, superintendent of police, Bankura district.
The district police officers said the initiative will be extended to different rural areas of Bankura in a phase-wise manner keeping in mind the growing importance of primary sector for providing basic necessities and employment in the changed scenario.
