BH CORRESPONDENT, Dhaka: Bangladesh on Friday observed Bhasha Shaheed Dibas or Language Martyrs’ Day and people from all spheres of life paid their homages to the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952.
Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid their tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the Capital at one minute past midnight on Friday.
The President was the first to lay the wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. Just after the President, Hasina placed the wreath at the Shaheed Minar. They stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect in the memories of the language heroes. Later many dignitaries from Bangladesh government and various organisations paid their respect to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement in the then East Pakistan.
