BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: Akshay Kumar was the luckiest among the Bollywood superstars who got the opportunity to conduct an interview Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Some liked it, some didn’t, but the interview went viral. The actor was heavily criticised for not asking the right questions.
But then on March 28, when PM Modi announced the formation of CARES fund and requested for donations to fight the coronavirus war, Akshay was one of the first Bollywood actors who donated a sum of Rs 25 crore to the PM-CARES fund. The actor, who has been vigorously raising awareness about COVID-19, said “Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai.”
“This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai,” Akshay tweeted.

The PM replied to his tweet saying, “Great gesture @akshaykumar. Let’s keep donating for a healthier India.”
The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.

Previously, a number of South Super stars like Prabhas, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Pawan Kalyan, Chiranjeevi Konidela and Mahesh Babu, have made hefty donations.
Baahubali actor Prabhas donated a total amount of Rs. 4 crore for relief efforts – Rs. 3 crore went to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, while Rs. 50 lakh each went to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to Telengana and Andhra Pradesh.
It was Pawan Kalyan who gave Rs 2 crore for the cause first. It was followed by his nephew Ram Charan, who donated of Rs 70 lakh. Then, Ram Charan’s father, the legendary Chiranjeevi, gave Rs 1 crore. Mahesh Babu also donated a crore for COVID-19. Allu Arjun went over them to donate Rs. 1.25 crore to the people of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Kerala.
Comedia Kapil Sharma also contributed Rs 50 lakh to the fight against Covid-19. Hrithik Roshan has bought N95 and FFP3 masks for workers of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and others who are out in the streets fighting the crisis.
Akshay who is going all out to on social media and urging the fans to stay at home during the lockdown was recently seen losing his cool on seeing when he saw numerous people on the streets with some valid reason. He took to Twitter to express it and he started the video by apologizing for any obscenities that came out of his mouth.
Meanwhile, Twitter was seen being mean to the other Bollywood actors especially the Khans who have been raising awareness about COVID-19 but haven’t come forward to make any donations till now. Amitabh Bachchan, who is one of the most active social media users, and voicing to stay at home during the crisis, was also criticised for not making any monetary donations at a time when the country needed most.
