BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: For the past few days, there were reports that Ajay Devgn was approached to play the leading role in the Hindi remake of Tamil superhit film Kaithi. And on Friday, the Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior actor himself took to Twitter to confirm the news. “Yes, I’m doing the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Kaithi,” he posted. He also announced the release date of the film — February 12, 2021. However, the director of the Hindi film is yet to be announced.
The producer of the film, SR Prabhu, also welcomed Ajay on board with a tweet. “We are thrilled to announce that @ajaydevgn will be playing the lead in @RelianceEnt @DreamWarriorPic and @ADFFilms Hindi remake of #Kaithi. The film will release on February 12, 2021. @Shibasishsarkar #SRPrakashbabu @Meena_Iyer,” he posted.
The film will be a joint co-production of Reliance Entertainment, Ajay’s Ajay Devgn Ffilms and Dream Warrior Pictures. The 2019 Tamil film had Karthi in the lead, with Narain, Ramana, Dheena, Arjun Das, and George in key roles.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Devgn has a lot on this plate. He will be seen in Amit Sharma’s next sports film Maidaan, where he will be seen as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Then, he will make a cameo appearance in Rohit Shetty’s cop film Sooryavanshi and SS Rajamouli’s RRR. And then there is also Abhishek Dudhaiya’s Bhuj: The Pride of India.
Now, the moment Ajay announced the date of the release of the Hindi remake of Kathi on February 12, 2012, speculations have been rife about other Bollywood films, which are releasing on the same date. Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan-starrer Atrangi Re is supposed to release on this date too. Then, Shakun Batra’s next, which stars Siddhant Chaturvedi (Gully Boy fame) and Ananya Panday, will also hit the theatres during the Valetine’s Day weekend.
