CHANDAN B MALLIK, Kolkata: Yamaha Motors India launched its first lifestyle-oriented 110cc gearless Fascino scooter in 2018 and with its success it has never looked back.
For 2020, it introduces a new and bigger chapter for the Fascino model — the Fascino 125 FI which has been developed from ground-up. The incoming model replaces the 110cc Fascino.
Lighter by 4kg, under its classic European styled body is a new chassis, single-cylinder 125cc fuel injected BS VI compliant engine with output of 8.2PS at 6,500 rpm and 9.7 Nm of torque coming at 5,000 rpm. Two trim levels are being offered – Standard and Deluxe and these can be identified from the gloss and matt colours respectively.
The scooter’s design DNA includes a slimmed down waistline, finely textured look, high class exterior design, halogen headlight with concave lens, metallic accents surrounding the headlight and the front panel. Analogue gauges are carried over, but dials have been redesigned to accommodate additional warning lights. Footboard is also widened so as the seats for comfort. Front mudguard material changes from plastic to metal.
Rider operated emergency stop-start switch is a new addition. Key fob now also incorporates seat latch release function. Underseat storage is 21 litres. Ground height is marginally altered as the 10in front wheel has been upgraded to 12in shod with 90×90 profile tyres upfront and 110×90 on 10in rim at rear. Front suspension is motorbike-type telescopic and braking engagement is unified.
The starter motor is of the newest silent motor-generator type with intelligent automatic start-stop feature. The efficiency package comes under Yamaha’s Blue Core systems. Riders can optimise their performance by following the eco light on the meter cluster. Fuel tank capacity unchanged at 5.2-litres.
Compared with the outgoing Fascino, the new machine offers 16% more fuel economy (58km/l is claimed) despite an increase of 30% in power.
Fascino 125 is offered in Vivid Red, Metallic Black, Yellow Cocktail, Matte Blue, Dark Matte Blue, Suave Copper and Cyan Blue. Both disc and drum brakes variants are offered. The price of the new Fascino 125 FI starts from Rs. 67,000-70,000 (ex-showroom).
