BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: After bringing back more than 70 students from Russia to Kolkata, it was the turn of 171 Indian nationals who were stuck in Dubai due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, and lockdown to return to the country. And once again, Bengali superstar and TMC Ghatal MP Dev has come to the rescue of these people.
Dev was shook by the entire episode of the migrants in India, who had to walk back to their native states when the nationwide lockdown was announced. Then, he and his team started receiving requests from migrant labourers stuck in Nepal who wanted to return to Ghatal. The work, which Dev and his small team begun by bringing the small group of migrant workers from Nepal, soon spread like fire on social media. And since then Dev and his team have been responding to distress queries over phone and social media. He has brought back migrant labourers from Jammu too.
However, his first international repatriation was completed when more than 70 Indian nationals mostly students from Russia returned to Kolkata recently. This group connected Dev on Twitter and though these students had earlier tried connecting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister’s Office, after the students contacted the Ghatal MP, he did the job of getting in touch with Centre and State. Today, the returnees are in quarantine.
In case of Dubai, Dev has been in touch with the Indian nationals stuck there for quite sometime. And finally, when the flight took off from Dubai on June 28, the day, the students from Russia landed in Kolkata under Vande Bharat Mission, Dev said, “Mission Dubai complete.” And he was extremely happy that he could act as a bridge in bringing the countrymen back to their homeland.
Before the Dubai flight took off, the Indian nations thanked the “superhero for the noble cause”. They took to Twitter to share photographs of their happy faces from the airport.

“All we can do at this point of time when the entire world is suffering is respond to the messages and pick up the distress calls. I also try not to give any false hope to anyone. Not everything is in my hand. So, I communicate the reality,” said Dev.
